AMSTERDAM – Airline KLM has raised ticket prices for return flights to the Caribbean islands, including Bonaire, by 100 euros. A spokesperson for the company confirmed this on Thursday. The price increase is linked to unrest in the Middle East and rising fuel costs.
According to KLM, higher kerosene costs are putting pressure on fares. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have been affecting oil prices for some time, with a direct knock-on effect on the aviation sector.
When asked by travellers how long the measure would last and whether existing bookings would be affected, KLM gave no concrete answer. It therefore remains unclear whether the price increase is temporary and whether previously booked tickets will be left unchanged.
TUI and Corendon
At other travel companies, there are no price increases for the time being. A spokesperson for TUI, Petra Kok, states that TUI has not yet raised its prices, but does not rule out doing so at a later stage.
Corendon, which operates flights to Bonaire among other destinations, is also keeping its prices the same for now. Spokesperson Jules van der Ven emphasises that no fuel surcharge is currently being applied, for either existing or new bookings.
The situation in the aviation sector remains uncertain, and further price changes for popular destinations such as Bonaire cannot be ruled out.
