WASHINGTON – Three men have been killed after the U.S. military opened fire on a suspected drug boat in the Caribbean, according to U.S. Southern Command.
It is the second deadly strike this month. Earlier, on April 14, four people were killed in a similar operation targeting a suspected drug-trafficking vessel, that time in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
U.S. authorities say the boats were traveling along known smuggling routes and are linked to criminal networks. Since September 2025, the U.S. military has carried out such strikes with increasing frequency, acting under orders from President Donald Trump.
According to official figures, more than 160 people have been killed in these operations to date. Critics argue that the strikes, which take place in international waters, are in violation of international law.
