Saba’s Island Council travels to BES summit in Bonaire

THE BOTTOM - Members of Saba’s Island Council travel to Bonaire today for the annual BES Island Council Summit. The three Caribbean Netherlands islands will discuss joint priorities and developments on Thursday.

Important topics on agenda

The BES Summit serves as a platform for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba to jointly discuss developments, legislative processes and shared priorities. Various topics are on the agenda for Thursday, February 27th.

The Island Councils will discuss the WolBES/FinBES consultation and next steps. Improvements to consultation processes regarding BES legislation and working agreements are also on the programme.

Furthermore, the councils will address healthcare research in the Caribbean Netherlands and joint Audit Chamber research topics. The state of education across the BES islands will also receive attention.

Side activities and basketball tournament

In addition to the formal sessions, Island Council members, Registrars, Island Governors and other representatives will take part in various side activities. A welcome dinner is scheduled for February 26th.

Saba’s Island Council will also attend the 3x3 basketball tournament in Bonaire. The Council will cheer on the Saban teams and support all young athletes participating in the event.

The Council recognises the powerful role that sports play in building confidence, teamwork and healthy communities. Their attendance demonstrates continued commitment to supporting young people and promoting active lifestyles in the Caribbean Netherlands.
