GUSTAVIA, St. Barths – Falling rocks along the main access road into Gustavia are raising fresh safety concerns among residents, following recent rockfalls that have left debris scattered across the roadway.
Photos circulating locally show large rocks and loose debris along the hillside and on the road surface, with sections partially cordoned off. The affected area appears to be one of the key routes into Gustavia, used daily by residents and visitors.
A resident has publicly criticized the lack of response from local authorities, stating that repeated attempts to raise the issue directly have gone unanswered. According to the resident, responses appear to come more quickly when concerns are raised on social media.
The situation has renewed questions about road safety and risk management in areas prone to rockfalls, particularly as unstable slopes continue to pose a hazard.
Clear communication
Residents are calling for clear communication on what measures are being taken and when the area will be fully secured, as well as longer-term solutions to prevent recurring incidents.
