BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved a USD346,000 technical assistance grant to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) to strengthen its institutional capacity.
The funding will support a comprehensive review of CDEMA’s structure, staffing and operations, with the aim of improving how the agency supports Caribbean countries before, during and after disasters.
The initiative comes amid growing climate-related risks in the region, placing increased pressure on disaster management systems. The review is expected to deliver practical recommendations to enhance efficiency and long-term sustainability.
Broader efforts
The grant is financed through a European Union-supported resilience programme and forms part of broader efforts to modernise CDEMA and improve regional disaster response coordination.
