KRALENDIJK – The first loggerhead sea turtles have been spotted near Klein Bonaire, marking the official start of the 2026 nesting season. Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire has announced it is ready to confirm the first nests and is calling on the public to join its patrols.

The so-called nest patrols run from May through October on the beach of Klein Bonaire, one of the island’s busiest nesting sites. During these morning rounds, a field team surveys the beach for sea turtle tracks and nests.

Public welcome to join patrols

Interested visitors can join the patrols three times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Excursions start at eight o’clock in the morning and last between three and five hours.

Participants will receive information about loggerhead sea turtle nesting behaviour and the measures taken to protect nests from disturbance.
