Concerned about domestic violence? On Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba you can ask for advice anonymously

KRALENDIJK - Residents of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba can now ask for anonymous advice about domestic violence and child abuse. A new campaign uses social media to guide them to help available on their island.
The campaign Safe Together Strong Together by Zorg en Jeugd Caribisch Nederland (ZJCN) aims to keep the conversation about safety on the islands alive. Not only for people who are themselves in a difficult situation, but also for those who are worried about a family member, friend or neighbour.
Advice can be requested anonymously
On Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, Advice Points for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse are available. Anyone can visit them for information, advice and support.
A conversation with an advice point is anonymous and does not automatically lead to a report or formal process. Those who are in doubt or have questions can gain more clarity about the situation and possible next steps.
"Many people think they first need to know for certain what is going on before they can ask for advice. That is not the case, if you are in doubt, call the advice point", says René Clemencia, policy officer responsible for implementing the Protection Code in Caribbean Netherlands. "When something doesn’t feel right, when you are worried about someone, or when you simply have questions, you can contact the advice point on your island. You do not have to figure it out alone."
Residents of the islands share their personal experiences with domestic violence or child abuse through the campaign. With their stories, they want to show others that they are not alone.
More information via social media
In the coming months, videos, stories and informative posts about recognising unsafe situations and finding help will be shared via social media. The National Office Caribbean Netherlands publishes the posts on Facebook.
