KRALENDIJK – Nature conservation organization STINAPA Bonaire has appointed a new interim board that will operate until a Supervisory Council (Raad van Toezicht) is formally established in the course of 2026. According to director Melissa van Hoorn, the interim board members bring extensive governance and management experience.
The interim board includes Anjelica Cicilia (chair), Peter Hengeveld, Francis Pieter and Sherwin Pourier. Two members from the previous board are temporarily remaining to ensure a smooth transition. Herbert Piar will serve as treasurer during the handover period but will not join the future Supervisory Council. Kumar Piar will step down in January 2026 and will also not be part of the new oversight body.
With the introduction of a Supervisory Council, STINAPA will adopt a clearer separation between oversight and daily management. The council will monitor the organization’s direction, advise the management and support it with expertise, allowing STINAPA to respond more effectively to changes. The move is intended to strengthen the organization as it continues its work to protect Bonaire’s nature parks, which are vital to the island’s economy and long-term sustainability.
STINAPA is preparing to mark its 40th anniversary in 2026.
